((Visualizing)) The (((Vibrancy))) of Living Things
Organic Gardening &bull Nov 11, 2011My first response to Ian's 'Atom Garden' series was I felt he'd so simply and elegantly evoked the universe. I felt he'd mixed E=mc2 directly into the paint to give the true glowing effects of the interrelation of the atoms in our gardens. His illustrations give voice to the hum of existence-the buzzing light reflecting from things as if it were they themselves that actually glowed. Taking a walk through the sensory landscape of Pyper's work may very well give you new eyes to see your own garden, when it eventually springs from the frozen soil a few months from… Full Story »

Bird Song Morning
The Vermont Gardener &bull Jul 24, 2011
Sunday, July 24, 2011 57 and windless on the mountain. We opened the windows last night and the cool breezes of around 11 PM made sleeping easy. Actually after a day working outside since 6 AM in 90 and high humidity, sleep came quickly. The songs of the vireos and warblers woke me half an hour ago and as I sit here writing and thinking, the bird songs welcome a calming morning. Thin gray clouds slide across a powder blue background sky and I know we are… Full Story »

A Revolution Blooms
The Occasional Gardener &bull Jul 20, 2011
Revolutions are literally, blooming. The Tunisian Jasmine revolution propelled this flower to the status of 'nefarious change agent', its very name perceived to have such 'destabilizing potency' in China that the NYTimes reports it is blocked from text messages and a summer festival named after it, cancelled. The flower and plant itself can no longer be sold, purchased, worn, or talked about. Something similar went on here in Malaysia a few weeks ago, dubbed the… Full Story »

Kibbutz Ein-Gedi Botanical Garden
www.travelwiththegardener.com &bull May 30, 2011EIN-GEDI, Israel - "Ten years ago, this guy this tall," Zabu Levin indicates a level close to his knees. Now this tall!" His hand shoots up as we look through the monkey bread tree's towering branches into the clear, blue, Judean Desert sky. The tree is a nighttime bloomer, Zabu tells me, with large, white flowers that last but one night, attracting bats with their sweet nectar and the buzz of bees at dawn. Zabu is walking with me through Kibbutz Ein-gedi's botanical garden. Declared a… Full Story »
